Kevin O’Leary is known for many things – a successful businessman, investor, and television personality. However, before he became a household name, O’Leary started his career as a journalist. Born and raised in Quebec, Canada, O’Leary attended the University of Waterloo where he studied environmental studies and psychology. During his time in college, O’Leary wrote for the university’s newspaper and eventually became the editor-in-chief. This experience sparked his interest in journalism and he went on to complete a master’s degree in business administration to become a financial journalist.
O’Leary’s journey to becoming a financial journalist led him to some notable positions at publications such as The Globe and Mail and The Financial Times. He also earned a reputation for being a tough and persistent interviewer, with a no-nonsense attitude that often ruffled feathers. However, it was this same attitude and determination that caught the eye of producers for a new television show called “Dragon’s Den” in Canada. O’Leary became one of the original dragons on the show, where entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to a panel of investors in hopes of securing investment. From there, he went on to join the cast of “Shark Tank” in the United States, solidifying his place as a successful businessman and media personality.
